You may be wondering what exactly goes into working with a wedding photographer. There is a lot more that goes into the back end of things than people realize. This is exactly what to expect when working with me, from the very beginning. Now, you won’t be a part of a lot of this…just the fun stuff. I think it’s a good idea that you know what I am doing when I am doing it.
STEP ONE: THE CONVERSATION.
You find out about Alyssa Morgan Photography from a friend, Wedding Wire, The Knot, Facebook, or some other source. You get super excited because my style matches yours + you think it would be AWESOME to work with me for your wedding. You fill out the contact form, and I do a happy dance in my office upon seeing your email. Nerd fact, I LOVE reading your emails. Hearing about your wedding plans puts a HUGE smile on my face…and I really do dance, FIY. After reading your email, I have a pretty good idea if we would be a good fit. Also, am I available for the date? Because that would be a bummer if I wasn’t!!
STEP TWO: WE GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER.
I will send you my wedding magazine, just in case you haven’t seen it yet. That will answer a lot of questions you might have and give you a better sense of my style + how I work on the wedding day. Then, we set up a consultation. It could be on the phone, or we might grab a beer. It’s up to you. This is where we both determine if we really like each other.
STEP THREE: WE LIKE EACH OTHER.
So after we meet + decide to become best friends, I will send over a proposal. This proposal will include a quote + contract for you to review. To hold the date, I require 1/3 of the collection price, which can be made online. In fact, all of your payments are made online. It’s just easier that way. The contract will be signed by you, your fiancé + me. If someone else is paying for your wedding, they will need to sign as well.
STEP FOUR: WE CELEBRATE WITH PHOTOS.
I include engagement sessions in each collection because I think it is important for all of us. It’s important for you so that you know what my style is before the big day, and it’s important for me to understand what you are comfortable with. Plus, it’s just hang out + get super awesome photos, right? These photos can be used for your save the dates, guest book, or just to enjoy.
STEP FIVE: EDIT, DELIVER, SHARE | PART ONE.
I go through each and every image we take, choose the ones that tell the best story (no eyes closed, no blurry/out of focus shots, no weird/unflattering faces), and edit each of them. I’ve considered sending photos off to be edited, but it just didn’t sit right with me. I am really invested in these images, and letting someone else take responsibility for them is out of the question. Does this take longer? Absolutely. But, it’s worth it.
After the photos are edited, I upload them to a gallery and send you the link. From there, you can purchase photos + albums, and share the photos with your friends + family on Facebook or via email.
Once you’ve seen your photos, they get a blog post of their very own!
STEP SIX: WEDDING PREP.
The night before your wedding, I will make sure all my gear is clean + ready to go. Memory cards will be reformatted. I will get butterflies, drink chamomile tea, and get plenty of sleep. The next morning is like the first day of school for me all over again. Every time. I LOVE IT.
Once I arrive at the venue, I will do a little location scouting. This is especially necessary if I am out of town + the venue is new to me. I’ll usually arrive about 30-45 minutes early to get this done. Some locations are found on the fly, but it’s nice to have some safe locations just in case.
STEP SEVEN: YOU GET MARRIED!
WOOP WOOP! This is the fun part. I will be there with you all day, from the getting ready photos to the big exit. For more info on how the timeline typically works, please check out my wedding magazine. It all depends on whether or not you decide to do a first look. Detail shots of your dress, shoes, invitation, etc. are all taken as soon as I get there. During the ceremony, I will typically sit in the aisle about two rows back to get all the good shots. If the officiant allows, I will walk around like a quiet little ninja to get some alternate perspectives. Once we hit the reception, the fun begins!
STEP EIGHT: EDIT, DELIVER, SHARE | PART TWO.
This process really isn’t much different from Part One. What I didn’t mention above is that I back up your photos not once, not twice, but FOUR times. They are saved to my hard drive, two external hard drives, and to cloud storage. You can never be too sure!!!
STEP NINE: BLOG.
I want the world to see your photos! If I think it is a good fit for a wedding magazine or blog, I will submit it. You will then be contacted by someone for a little description of your wedding day, how you found inspiration, and other fun questions. 🙂
STEP TEN: SHARE!
All your family + friends are DYING to see these photos! SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!
STEP ELEVEN: PRINT THOSE PHOTOS.
Listen, I am TOTALLY guilty of letting my photos live in a series of 1’s and 0’s on my computer. NO BUENO. Print those bad boys and hang ’em up. I will be MORE than happy to help you order additional prints or an album. I’ll give you a hint for a wonderful Christmas gift for your parents…it rhymes with moto talbum.
STEP TWLEVE: KEEP IN TOUCH!
I love, LOVE keeping in touch with my couples. Coffee, lunch, whatever. A Skype chat so I can see your new house, photos from your honeymoon…I would love to see. Please don’t feel like once we are done working together that we can’t continue to keep in touch. Maybe one day I can even photograph your babies! I LOVE BABIES!
